NJHS  Standards for Membership

 

Scholarship by definition is a demonstrated fund of knowledge and learning. To be eligible for NJHS a student must have achieved a cumulative grade of B+ while attending Case Junior High.  In addition, students must have been in attendance for at least one half of a school year. When students meet only the minimal attendance their previous school may be contacted to gain further information.

   

Service is generally considered to be the actions undertaken by the student that are done with or on the behalf of others without any direct financial or material compensation.  A student who serves: 

·        Volunteers and provides dependable and well organized assistance, is gladly available, and is willing to sacrifice to offer assistance

·        Works well with others and is willing to take on difficult or inconspicuous responsibilities

·        Cheerfully and enthusiastically renders any requested service to the school

·        Is willing to represent the school in inter-class and inter-scholastic competition

·        Does committee and staff work diligently and without complaint

·        Participates in some activity outside of school for example, Girl Scouts; Boy Scouts; religious groups; volunteer services for the elderly, poor or disadvantaged

Leadership is considered an important criterion for membership selection. A NJHS member is a leader in the classroom, at work, and in other school or community activities. A leader is: 

·        Thoroughly dependable in any responsibility accepted

·        Exercises positive influence on peers in upholding school and community ideals

·        Exemplifies positive attitudes and inspires positive behavior in others

·        Contributes ideas that improve the civic life of the school and/or community 

 

Citizenship is a national concept demonstrated by students who: 

·        Understand the importance of civic involvement

·        Has a high regard for freedom, justice, and respect for country

·        Demonstrates mature participation and responsibility through involvement in such activities as Scouting, community organizations, and school clubs

   

A person of Character demonstrates the qualities of respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship. In addition a student of character: 

·        Takes criticism willingly and accepts recommendations graciously

·        Consistently exemplifies desirable qualities of cheerfulness, friendliness, poise, stability

·        Uphold principles of morality and ethics

·        Cooperates by complying with school regulations concerning property, programs, officer, hall etc.

·        Demonstrates the highest standards of honesty and reliability

·        Regularly shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others

·        Manifests truthfulness in acknowledging obedience to rules, avoiding cheating in written work, and showing unwillingness to profit by the mistakes of others
