Safety Policies

Dismissals

If you are picking your child up at the end of the school day, please arrive between 2:55-3:05 p.m., and follow the middle or right car-rider line. Families should have the car-rider placard displayed on the passenger side visor, to identify which child you are picking up. Parents are asked to remain in their vehicles and pull forward as close as you can to the car in front of you, as this helps to keep vehicles off of the street. Once you approach the front of the line, your child will enter your car on the passenger side. Please pull forward as soon as your child is safely seated in your vehicle.

If anyone other than a child’s parent is to dismiss them from school, a note must be sent with your child that morning to inform the office of the change. A picture I.D. will be required when picking up a child.  For safety reasons, ONLY PARENTS/GUARDIANS are allowed to dismiss a child without written consent.

 Visitors and Late Arrivals
All visitors must check in at the main office and receive a visitor pass. If your child is tardy for school (after 8:35am), parents/guardians are to check in at the office and we will ensure that the student gets to class. If you would like to speak with your child’s teacher please make an appointment first. We will make every effort to accommodate your schedule.

Transportation Department
Please call the Transportation Department at 508-646-4400 with questions regarding students riding the school bus.

 Parking & Traffic Patterns
Please observe the ONE WAY, NO PARKING, & HANDICAP PARKING signs posted. Also, please reduce your speed when traveling on school property. Drop-off and dismissal time can become very hazardous for children and parents if these safety rules are ignored.
Parents do not need to park and walk their child to the school or playground unless the child is unable to exit the vehicle by himself. In this case you will be asked to pull into a parking space to help your child exit the vehicle. Parents are asked not to congregate in the parking lot during arrival and dismissal times, as this hinders the flow of traffic. Your cooperation is appreciated in maintaining the safety of our students during these busy times of the day.

Volunteering - CORI Checks & Fingerprinting
Brown Elementary School is committed to developing each child's abilities to the fullest extent possible with all the available resources available. Extra activities include School Spirit Days, Book Fairs, and various in-school programs and events. Parent volunteers assist with field trips, library coverage, Field Day and PTO activities.

CORI checks are required for all school volunteers and personnel. These must be done every three years for safety reasons. We suggest doing this at the beginning of the school year as the turn around time can take weeks. You may come to the school to fill out the required form during school hours or go to the Superintendent's Office at the Swansea School Administration Office.

Fingerprinting is required to volunteer or chaperone for specific activities, events, or trips.  Please visit the school district's main page for additional information on how to complete the fingerprinting process.
