The retirements of Mr. Silveira and Mr. Courville create two important leadership vacancies within our district. To assist in identifying the next principals for the Jr. High School and Hoyle Elementary School, we will be convening search committees composed of representatives from several stakeholder groups. I am seeking volunteers to serve on the Jr. High School Principal Search Committee and the Hoyle Elementary School Principal Search Committee. Each committee will include parents, staff members, and administrators. In addition, the Jr. High School committee will also include student representatives.

At Thursday evening’s School Committee meeting, Swansea School Department staff were honored as recipients of enrichment funds generously awarded by Cynde Flannigan. These funds, made possible through the Stephen C. Flannigan Enrichment Fund, are dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities for students across the district. The fund was established in memory of Stephen C. Flannigan, former Superintendent of Swansea Public Schools, whose passion for education and commitment to students continue to inspire our community.

As a show of support, solidarity, and remembrance of second grade student Mason Stringer, countless students and staff across the district wore the color yellow, Mason’s favorite color. Classrooms, hallways, and school offices were filled with yellow as our school community came together in a powerful visual reminder that Mason will always be a part of us.
